Riccardo Cipolleschi 9e2e8c1a27 Prepare scripts to simplify E2E testing (#46545) 
Summary:
Add tests to simplify running Maestro e2e tests locally.
Thanks to these scripts, users can just, from the root folder:

```sh
yarn install
cd packages/rn-tester

# build android for testing
yarn e2e-build- android

# run tests on android
yarn e2e-test-android

# build iOS for testing
yarn e2e-build-ios

# run tests on iOS
yarn e2e-test-ios
```

This is a preliminary step for a future umbrella issue. We can also use these command in CI to simplify the scripts.

Ramanpreet Nara 8bced4b29d Pull PopupMenuAndroid out of React Native core 
Summary:
**History:** This component was originally introduced into React Native core in D52712758, to replace UIManagerModule.showPopupMenu().

**Problem:** But, React Native core should be lean. Adding this component to React Native bloats the core.

**Changes:** So, this diff pulls PopupMenuAndroid out into its own package in the react-native GitHub repository.

In the future, this will be migrated to a community package!

Nicola Corti b15a2c3fc1 Unblock yarn android on main (#39413)

`yarn android` on main is currently broken due to the CLI attempting to search for the manifest inside the src/androidTest folder.
This fixes it by specifying the exact path of the Android Manifest.

Arushi Kesarwani 2eb25cbdbe Update Node.js to v18 in all RN packages (#37791)

## Bump minimum Node JS version to 18 via `react-native/package.json#engines`

In https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/35443 we bumped up the node version from 16 to 18.

Node 16 [ends maintenance releases on 2023-09-11](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/announcements/nodejs16-eol/), and bumping this minimum will allow other associated Node JS tools (CLI, Metro, Jest) to reduce their support burden.

This follows up by formally making Node 18 the minimum supported version.

Nicola Corti 40f816d5bc Add scripts to yarn start and yarn android from root

## Context

### React Native Metro config → React Native repo (https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/36502)

We (the React Native team) are aiming to relocate the default Metro config for React Native out of `react-native-community/cli-plugin-metro` and **into the React Native repo + app template** as a new `react-native/metro-config` package.

This is the first (and minimum viable) phase we can ship to separate the release process of Metro from RN CLI in order to reduce coupling and iterate faster for our users.

## Changes

NOTE: This PR is pending the inclusion of a bump to `react-native-community/cli`, and will be sequenced after https://github.com/react-native-community/cli/pull/1875 is merged.

- Upgrade `react-native-community/cli` to `11.0.0`, upgrade all `metro` packages to `0.76.0` (version distributed in this CLI release).
- Update the `metro.config.js` file in `packages/react-native/template/`.
    - Now merges defaults from `react-native/metro-config`, and can be used with CLI >= 11.0.0.
- Update the `metro.config.js` files for `packages/react-native/` and `packages/rn-tester/` (these are integration test locations).
    - Now merges defaults from `react-native/metro-config`, and can be used with CLI >= 11.0.0.

Changes to `react-native/metro-config` — `0.72.1` (prepared but not depended on yet):

- Export `mergeConfig` util (removing direct `metro-config` dependency in consuming projects).
- Explicitly depend on `metro-react-native-babel-transformer` and `metro-runtime` (transitively included today).

- Update `objc-test.sh` to run in `packages/rn-tester`, and exclude tests under `/IntegrationTests` which are outside of a Metro project directory.
    - **This is temporary** — a task has been created to move/split up/otherwise restore tests in `IntegrationTests`, which cipolleschi is following up (thanks!).
- Also fix `yarn start` script in `packages/rn-tester`.

Gabriel Donadel Dall'Agnol fa22a6e2d7 build: Bump ws to 6.2.2 due to ReDoS vulnerability (#34759) 
Summary:
A moderate vulnerability was found in all versions of `ws` below 7.4.6 June last year. React native current uses v6.1.4 which is susceptible to it, fortunately this security fix has been backported to v6.X.X and we don't need to upgrade any major versions/worry about breaking changes. This PR bumps `ws` to 6.2.2 ([CHANGELOG](https://github.com/websockets/ws/releases/tag/6.2.2)) due to this ReDoS vulnerability

Héctor Ramos 1115bc77db Make Hermes the default engine on iOS (#34085)

Hermes is now the default engine on iOS.

Apps can choose to continue using JSC by setting `hermes_enabled` to `false` in their Podfile.

The RNTester app now uses Hermes, as well. Use JSC in RNTester by setting `USE_HERMES=0` when running `pod install`.

Nicola Corti 5f3c5aa529 Extend the React Native Gradle plugin to accept a config from package.json 
Summary:
This extends the Gradle plugin to allow configuration for `codegenConfig` from the
`package.json` that lives in one of the root folder.

There are a couple of points open for discussion. The most important one
is that now we're moving from absolute paths to relative paths, from the
package.json location. I'm not entirely sure this will work correctly
for users in monorepos, so we might consider this carefully.

Moreover, I've moved the `codegenJavaPackageName` to be `android.javaPackageName`.
Happy to discuss this further.

Riccardo Cipolleschi 05aaba9514 Align Codegen between iOS and Android (#33864)

This Diff aligns the way in which iOS and Android codegen the modules and components.
Android takes all the JS in the project root folder and creates components starting from there.
iOS used to required to specify a specific path for each component, within a JSON field called `libraries`. This Diff let iOS work in the same way as android does

**Backward compatibility:** This diff still support the old way for iOS, but we are deprecating it.

Lorenzo Sciandra ac206aa814 removing unused Detox (#32907) 
Summary:
I realized while checking for a few other things that Detox's presence in the repo is actually not really motivated - since Jul 2020 the few tests that were using it were disabled https://github.com/facebook/react-native/commit/120ff7ccdebebdf814e478259ba1e4a8ef6f513e never to be reactivated since.

I noticed this while attempting to updating the Detox version to latest... which made me notice that the repo is still on a 16.x version while latest is 19.x (there are like 10 pages of releases between them: https://github.com/wix/Detox/releases) and I came to the conclusion that it's probably easier to just remove the old dusty code and eventually reintroduce it in the future if we ever consider it necessary.

Lorenzo Sciandra fb14fd42b3 Chore: Upgrade Detox to 16.7.2 (#30084) 
Summary:
With Xcode 12 being the latest, Detox 15.x has issues - in particular, it means that if you try to `yarn install` the dependencies for the repo, you'll be greeted by this error:

With the {emoji:1f44d} of hramos & alloy I've prep'd up a small defensive PR that can be quickly merged before cutting 0.64, that bumps the version of Detox from 15.4.4 to the highest version available within the reach of "no breaking changes" in changelog.

The main reason why with 16.x this error doesn't happen is that from [16.0.0](https://github.com/wix/Detox/releases/tag/16.0.0):

> Detox now comes as a prebuilt framework on iOS, thus lowering npm install times and saving some build issues that happen due to unexpected Xcode setups.

It would have been better to update directly to latest (at the time of writing 17.7.1) but there are at least two versions that had changelogs that seem to involve bigger changes:

Hopefully CI will will show that the bump doesn't break any test �

simek 29f5dc2ae0 chore: deduplicate lock, update packages repository fields (#30044) 
Summary:
This small PR includes the following changes:
* deduplicate yarn lock file using [`yarn-deduplicate`](https://github.com/atlassian/yarn-deduplicate) package
  * deduplicate script has been added as `update-lock`, let me know if you would like also to see this in [`postinstall`](https://docs.npmjs.com/misc/scripts) (to automatically optimize lock on every dependency change)
* according to the [npm docs](https://docs.npmjs.com/files/package.json#repository):
  * main `package.json` repository field has been replaced with shorthand
  * monorepo packages repository field has been extended by `directory`

The main goal of introducing deduplication script was to optimize the dependencies footprint while developing and speed up the initial installation process. Running `yarn-deduplicate` also increase the security in some way, because it enforces usage only of the latest version of the package. You can read more about the benefits in the deduplicate script [repository](https://github.com/atlassian/yarn-deduplicate#duplicated-packages).

Christoph Nakazawa 3967635632 Add a proper "monorepo" setup for React Native 
Summary:
This adds all the packages we use to the workspace in open source, which means we can change our publish scripts to also publish the packages from the repo every time we publish the main repo. I'll work with somebody from the community on that part.

Note: We do not use `eslint-config-react-native-community` internally and it pulls in a lot of packages we don't need. It is part of the React Native repo because it is used in the RN app template but we may want to choose to move it out into a separate repo at some point.
