Mads OdgaardandGitHub c5784ca815 Replace import Foundation with FoundationEssentials (#897)
Replaces all the foundation imports.

One issue is that `HTTPClient.init?(httpsURLWithSocketPath socketPath:
String, uri: String = "/")` uses `addingPercentEncoding()` from
Foundation. So instead, we use a pure Swift impl. that does the same.

We also need to disable default traits from `swift-configuration` to
prevent linking Foundation, because the `JSON` trait does that.

This also adds a linkage test to prevent regressions to CI.

To migrate to GitHub actions and centralised infrastructure.

### Modifications:

Changes of note:
* Adopt swift-format using rules from SwiftNIO.
* Remove scripts and docker files which are no longer needed.
* Disabled warnings-as-errors on Swift 6.0 CI pipelines for now.

### Result:

Feature parity with old CI.

David NadobaandGitHub 98b45ed1cd Allow DNS override (#675)
Sometimes it can be useful to connect to one host e.g. `x.example.com` but request and validate the certificate chain as if we would connect to `y.example.com`. This is what this PR adds support for by adding a `dnsOverride` configuration to `HTTPClient.Configuration`. This is similar to curls `—resolve-to` option but only allows overriding host and not ports for now.

3fcd67061f Improve errors and testing using NIOTS (#588)
Motivation

Currently error reporting with NIO Transport Services is often sub-par.
This occurs because the Network.framework connections may enter the
waiting state until the network connectivity state changes. We were not
watching for the user event that contains the error in that state, so if
we timed out in that state we'd just give a generic timeout error,
instead of telling the user anything more detailed.

Additionally, several of our tests assume that failure will be fast, but
in NIO Transport Services we will enter that .waiting state. This is
reasonable, as changed network connections may make a connection that
was not succeeding suddenly viable. However, it's inconvenient for
testing, where we're mostly interested in confirming that the error path
works as expected.

Modifications

- Add an observer of the WaitingForConnectivity event that records it
  into our state machine for later reporting.
- Add support for disabling waiting for connectivity for testing
  purposes.
- Add annotations to several tests to stop them waiting for
  connectivity.

Results

Faster tests, better coverage, better errors for our users.

Fabian FettandGitHub 8e4d51908d Refactor Channel creation (#377)
- The connection creation logic has been refactored into a number of smaller methods that can be combined
- Connection creation now has a logical home. It is moved from `Utils.swift` into a `ConnectionFactory`
- There are explicit `ChannelHandlers` that are used for connection creation:
  - `TLSEventsHandler` got its own file and unit tests
  - `HTTP1ProxyConnectHandler` got its own file and unit tests
  - `SOCKSEventsHandler` got its own file and unit tests
- Some small things are already part of this pr that will get their context later. For example: 
  - `HTTPConnectionPool` is added as a namespace to not cause major renames in follow up PRs
  - `HTTPConnectionPool.Connection.ID` and its generator were added now. (This will be used later to identify a connection during its lifetime)
  - the file `HTTPConnectionPool+Manager` was added to give `HTTPConnectionPool.Connection.ID.Generator` already its final destination.

Fabian FettandGitHub af837edfcb Add http/2 support to HTTPBin (#382)
- Add `swift-nio-http2` as a dependency to the Package.swift (only used in the test target so far).
- Remove unused initialization options for `HTTPBin`
- The initialization options `ssl: Bool = false, compress: Bool = false, refusesConnections: Bool = false` move into a `Mode` enum. The mode might be `.http1_1(ssl: Bool, compress: Bool)`, `.http2(compress: Bool)`, or `.refuse`
- Added support for `http/2` (not used in any tests yet, however I verified the support with curl locally.)
- Nearly all channel pipeline modifications in `HTTPBin` are synchronous now.
- HTTPBin's request handler is configurable. This allows testing of more esoteric cases without having to create a new server every time. The default `HTTPBin` continues to use the `HTTPBinHandler`.

Adam FowlerandGitHub 9cdf8a01e5 Generate trust roots SecCertificate for Transport Services (#350)
This PR is a result of another #321.

In that PR I provided an alternative structure to TLSConfiguration for when connecting with Transport Services.

In this one I construct the NWProtocolTLS.Options from TLSConfiguration. It does mean a little more work for whenever we make a connection, but having spoken to @weissi he doesn't seem to think that is an issue.

Also there is no method to create a SecIdentity at the moment. We need to generate a pkcs#12 from the certificate chain and private key, which can then be used to create the SecIdentity.

This should resolve #292

Johannes WeissandGitHub e2d03ffb32 cache NIOSSLContext (saves 27k allocs per conn) (#362)
Motivation:

At the moment, AHC assumes that creating a `NIOSSLContext` is both cheap
and doesn't block.

Neither of these two assumptions are true.

To create a `NIOSSLContext`, BoringSSL will have to read a lot of
certificates in the trust store (on disk) which require a lot of ASN1
parsing and much much more.

On my Ubuntu test machine, creating one `NIOSSLContext` is about 27,000
allocations!!! To make it worse, AHC allocates a fresh `NIOSSLContext`
for _every single connection_, whether HTTP or HTTPS. Yes, correct.

Modification:

- Cache NIOSSLContexts per TLSConfiguration in a LRU cache
- Don't get an NIOSSLContext for HTTP (plain text) connections

Result:

New connections should be _much_ faster in general assuming that you're
not using a different TLSConfiguration for every connection.

5298f20331 Support NIO Transport Services - part 2 (#184)
This is the continuation of the good work of @Yasumoto and @weissi in #135

The following code adds support for NIO Transport services. When the ConnectionPool asks for a connection bootstrap it is returned a NIOClientTCPBootstrap which wraps either a NIOTSConnectionBootstrap or a ClientBootstrap depending on whether the EventLoop we are running on is NIOTSEventLoop.

If you initialize an HTTPClient with eventLoopGroupProvider set to .createNew then if you are running on iOS, macOS 10.14 or later it will provide a NIOTSEventLoopGroup instead of a EventLoopGroup.

Currently a number of tests are failing. 4 of these are related to the NIOSSLUncleanShutdown error the others all seem related to various race conditions which are being dealt with on other PRs. I have tested this code with aws-sdk-swift and it is working on both macOS and iOS.

Things look into:

The aws-sdk-swift NIOTS HTTP client had issues with on Mojave. We should check if this is the case for async-http-client as well.
