Summary: First, I make the breadcrumbs mechanism (landed just this week) more readable - I forgot to add separators between the breadcrumbs. Second, there is a path that I am 99% sure we never hit. I've had comments to that effect for a ~year, but now I'm adding a falsey assert. If we don't hit it in prod after a few months I'll be more comfortable just deleting the branch entirely (while probably keeping the assert).
