Moti Zilberman d16c1a04d8 Reduce use of assertions in prop parsing (#36164)
Summary:
Pull Request resolved: https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/36164

Changelog:
[General][Fixed] - Invalid prop values no longer trigger assertion failures in Fabric

## Context

Fabric has historically been very strict about prop parsing. It originally `abort()`ed on any prop value that failed to parse according to the expected type; this was replaced with dev-only assertions in D27540903 (https://github.com/facebook/react-native/commit/cb37562f8355b624e271c5b74416c257b0e62a00). We've received feedback that C++ assertions (and other similar mechanisms in the legacy renderer) are still too aggressive and disruptive as a diagnostic for developers working on JS code.

We are changing React Native to behave more like a browser in this regard, reflecting a new principle that **bad style values are not runtime errors**. (See e.g. D43159284 (https://github.com/facebook/react-native/commit/d6e9891577c81503407adaa85db8f5bf97557db0).) The recommended way for developers to ensure they are passing correct style values is to use a typechecker (TypeScript or Flow) in conjunction with E2E tests and manual spot checks.

More broadly, values passed from JS product code should not be able to crash the app, which is why we're not strictly limiting this change to style props. From now on, if a JS developer can trigger an internal assertion in React Native simply by writing normal application code, that is a bug.

## This diff

This diff introduces a new macro called `react_native_expect` which serves as a drop-in replacement for `react_native_assert`, but logs (to glog / logcat / stdout) instead of asserting. This way we don't need to fully delete the existing call sites. This will be helpful if we decide that we want to repurpose these checks for a new, more visible diagnostic.

I'm *intentionally* opting for the simplest possible improvement here, which is to silence the assertions - not to print them to the JS console, not to convert them to LogBox warnings, etc. The hypothesis is that this is already strictly an improvement over the previous behaviour, will help us get to feature parity between renderers faster, and allow us to design improved diagnostics that are consistent and helpful.

## Next steps

1. There are still places where Fabric can hit an unguarded assertion in prop conversion code (e.g. unchecked casts from `RawValue` with no fallback code path). I will fix those in a separate diff.
2. Paper on iOS needs a similar treatment as it calls `RCTLogError` liberally during prop parsing (resulting in a native redbox experience that is nearly as bad as an outright crash). I will fix that in a separate diff.
3. I'll add some manual test cases to RNTester to cover these scenarios.
4. We will eventually need to take a clear stance on PropTypes, but since they provide reasonable, non-breaking diagnostics (recoverable JS LogBox + component stack) it is less urgent to do so.

Adam Gleitman 11c8bf3137 Add Dynamic Type support for iOS (Paper and Fabric) (#35017)
Summary:
This adds Dynamic Type support in iOS as described [here](https://github.com/react-native-community/discussions-and-proposals/issues/519).

`Text` elements have a new prop, `dynamicTypeRamp`, that allows users to specify which font ramp a particular `Text` element should take on as the OS's accessibility setting for text size. The different types line up with different values of `UIFontTextStyle`. If not specified, we default to the current behavior.

~~For the moment, this change is only for Paper. I tried applying a corresponding change to Fabric by adding an additional field to [`facebook::react::TextAttributes`](https://github.com/facebook/react-native/blob/main/ReactCommon/react/renderer/attributedstring/TextAttributes.h) and changing [`RCTEffectiveFontSizeMultiplierFromTextAttributes`](https://github.com/facebook/react-native/blob/afb124dcf0cdf0db525acc7cfd2cea2742c64068/ReactCommon/react/renderer/textlayoutmanager/platform/ios/RCTAttributedTextUtils.mm#L79-L84) to use that new field, but in the process I discovered that this function doesn't seem to ever get called, hence [this bug](https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/34990).~~

The [first implementation of `TextAttributes` in Fabric](https://github.com/facebook/react-native/commit/62576bcb7832e08c6fd9f9482285882c37a2ece5) included two separate props instead of `textDecorationStyle`: `textDecorationLineStyle` (single, double, ...) and `textDecorationLinePattern` (dot, dash, dotdash, ...). These two props were implemented in C++ and iOS but never supported in JS.

Pre-Fabric (and CSS) on the other hand use a single prop `textDecorationStyle: 'solid' | 'double' | 'dotted' | 'dashed'`.

This diff implements this same API in Fabric, and removes the unused `textDecorationLineStyle` and `textDecorationLinePattern` props.

Joshua Gross cb37562f83 Remove abort in props parsing
Summary:
Goals are:

1. Catch errors in parsing during dev-mode in a way that is disruptive/grabs attention, but has enough information.
2. Use react_native_assert for hitting breakpoints (less useful for Android, more for iOS), and add LOGs for when this code is used in Android (more useful for Android, less useful for iOS).
3. Return sane defaults so that prod cases don't crash, and don't return totally garbage data.

I also found a couple cases where parsing was incorrect before; see WritingDirection and TextAlignment. This could impact some layouts and RTL/LTR potentially.

See react_native_assert.{h,cpp}. Because of the BUCK+Android issue where NDEBUG is always defined, we use react_native_assert instead of assert to enable xplat asserts in debug/dev mode.

Emily Janzer b352e2da81 Create a ClickableSpan for nested Text components
Summary:
Right now nested Text components are not accessible on Android. This is because we only create a native ReactTextView for the parent component; the styling and touch handling for the child component are handled using spans. In order for TalkBack to announce the link, we need to linkify the text using a ClickableSpan.

This diff adds ReactClickableSpan, which TextLayoutManager uses to linkify a span of text when its corresponding React component has `accessibilityRole="link"`. For example:

  <Text>
    A paragraph with some
    <Text accessible={true} accessibilityRole="link" onPress={onPress} onClick={onClick}>links</Text>
    surrounded by other text.
  </Text>

With this diff, the child Text component will be announced by TalkBack ('links available') and exposed as an option in the context menu. Clicking on the link in the context menu fires the Text component's onClick, which we're explicitly forwarding to onPress in Text.js (for now - ideally this would probably use a separate event, but that would involve wiring it up in the renderer as well).

ReactClickableSpan also applies text color from React if it exists; this is to override the default Android link styling (teal + underline).
