Jeffrey Beauchamp 6e28e2dc99 Back out "Use NSCAssert() in react_native_assert instead of C assert()"
Summary:
Original commit changeset: 43c4e4f1ae6b

Original Phabricator Diff: D43275024 (https://github.com/facebook/react-native/commit/c5bc3f1373d223d4068f762c597bdc45261fb6c5)

D43587488 reverted D43275024 (https://github.com/facebook/react-native/commit/c5bc3f1373d223d4068f762c597bdc45261fb6c5), but it was only committed to the fbobjc/releases/release-fbios-2023.03.01 branch (v404).

We still aren't seeing successful fbios-pika-iphoneos-release builds for v405 (https://fburl.com/mobile/7zac3b5w). This is preventing QA and employee dogfooding of v405 (S325502).

(Note: this ignores all push blocking failures!)

Nick Gerleman c5bc3f1373 Use NSCAssert() in react_native_assert instead of C assert() (#36177)
Summary:
Pull Request resolved: https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/36177

react_native_assert calls C `assert()`, where XCode does not have a built-in breakpoint navigator to hook to assertion failures (though you can add a symbolic breakpoint to "abort()" to get the effect). This changes the Apple implemented of `react_native_assert()` to use `NSCAssert` under the hood. This is safe to use in C functions, but will be trapped by the default XCode exceptions breakpoint navigator.

[iOS][Fixed] - Use NSCAssert() in react_native_assert instead of C assert()

Riccardo Cipolleschi 5d175c6775 Break Circular Dependency between React-Codegen and React-Fabric (#36210)
Summary:
Pull Request resolved: https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/36210

One of the circular dependencies we have in OSS was between React-Codegen and React-Fabric.

React-Codegen generates component which has to depends on React-Fabric because they need to use the files contained in the `react/renderer/view` folder.

React-Fabric contains some components that depends on RNCore, which was generated inside the React-Codegen folder.

This change generates the RNCore components inside the `ReactCommon/react/renderer/components/rncore` folder, breaking the dependency as `rncore` folder is now contained by React-Fabric itself.

**Fun Fact:** That's how it always should have been. There was already a line in the `.gitignore` to exclude the content of `ReactCommon/react/renderer/components/rncore` folder. I guess that with some of the refactoring/previous projects on Codegen, this requirements has slipped.

Héctor Ramos a68c418082 Do not build JSI in React-jsi when Hermes is enabled, resolve JSI ODR violation (#35038)
Summary:
Pull Request resolved: https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/35038

React-jsi provides JSI to allow React Native to interface with JavaScriptCore.
The hermes-engine Pod provides a second copy of JSI, as Hermes is built and linked statically with JSI.
This second copy of JSI would lead to an [ODR Violation](https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/language/definition).

To resolve this, when Hermes is enabled:
- React-hermes and hermes-engine are installed.
- React-jsc is not installed.
- React-jsi continues to be installed.
- React-jsi will not build JSI.
- React-jsi will declare a dependency on hermes-engine.

The result is that the JSI dependency for React Native is satisfied by hermes-engine, and there is no duplicate JSI library in the project.

When Hermes is disabled:
- React-jsi and React-jsc are installed.
- React-hermes and hermes-engine are not installed.
- React-jsi will build JSI.

[iOS][Changed] Resolve JSI ODR violation, make hermes-engine the JSI provider when Hermes is enabled

Héctor Ramos 6b129d81ed CocoaPods: Split React-jsc out of React-jsi (#35031)
Summary:
Pull Request resolved: https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/35031

The React-jsi Pod was serving two purposes: building JSI, and configuring JavaScriptCore as the JS engine.

By splitting the React-jsi Pod into React-jsi and React-jsi, we can start working towards de-coupling the JSI dependency from any particular JS engine.

Pods that depended on React-jsi, now depend on React-jsi and React-jsc.
One exception to this is React-hermes, which is only installed when Hermes is enabled, and thus does not require JavaScriptCore.
Upcoming commits should take care of removing the React-jsc dependency when Hermes is enabled, but it is out of scope for this commit.

Changelog:
[iOS][Changed] - The JSC Runtime is now provided by the React-jsc Pod instead of React-jsi. Libraries that declared a dependency on React-jsi in order to specifically create a JSC runtime (`makeJSCRuntime()`) will need to add React-jsc to their dependencies.

Summary:
Changelog: [internal]

Introducing LeakChecker. A tool that checks if all native components have been cleaned up when surface is stopped.

**Known shortcomings**:
- LeakChecker is only enabled in debug builds and the existence of leaks is logged to console.
- For now, Leak Checker looks at N-1 screen. This is intentional as there is a known limitation of React that doesn't free up all shadow nodes when surface is stopped. Because of this, the use of LeakChecker is not intuitive and I'll work with React team to try to work around this.
- It doesn't help locating the leak, it only informs that leak is present. I'll be looking into ways to help locate the leak.

Joshua Gross ec4833f06d Introduce RN_DEBUG flag and rn_assert for Cxx
Summary:
BUCK always defines NDEBUG on Android builds. This is a longstanding issue and it's tricky to work around.

Previous attempts to fix this within React Native were difficult because disabling NDEBUG caused lots of issues that were difficult to track down.

Instead, I am (1) introducing a new RN_DEBUG flag that can be used cross-platform, (2) whenever NDEBUG is *not* enabled, RN_DEBUG will automatically be defined, (3) enables debug-only code to be compiled on Android, (4) enables us to selectively, slowly migrate `assert` to `rn_assert` in a way that doesn't impact non-Android platforms, but allows us to maintain stability of Android debug builds.

Actually enabling the RN_DEBUG flag in debug builds is done in FB-internal code. I assume the NDEBUG issue is not a problem when compiling in open-source without BUCK.

empyrical f312e5ba84 Update iOS Fabric-related files to compile on OSS (#29810)
Summary:
Original PR contents:

This pull request updates the Podspecs and associated build scripts, and some source files so they build on OSS. RNTester now compiles with `fabric_enabled` again.

The following changes have been made:

 * Various spots that were pointing to the old `ReactCommon/fabric` location have now been updated to `ReactCommon/react/renderer`
 * Files that were attempting to use internal FB header `FBRCTFabricComponentsPlugins.h` were changed to use `RCTFabricComponentsPlugins.h`
 * `RCTFabricComponentsPlugins` in OSS was updated to include the `Image` fabric component (thanks tsapeta)
 * Replaced old `generate-rncore.sh` build script with new `generate-rncore.js` script which does not require `flow-node` and uses the `react-native-codegen` API directly, so there is no longer any need for an interim `schema-rncore.json` file.
 * Updated Yoga podspec which wasn't fully synced with changes from the main Yoga repo
 * Updated Fabric podspec with additional needed subspecs

Additions to PR by hramos:
* Replaced use of generate-rncore scripts with the original generate-native-modules-specs.sh script, which is now generate-specs.sh and supports both codegen for Native Modules and Components now (TurboModules/Fabric).
* Codegen now runs at build time as part of the Xcode build pipeline instead of as part of `pod install`. The build script is injected by the FBReactNativeSpec pod, as the pod is part of both Fabric and non-Fabric builds.

simek 2160377574 remove most of tvOS remnants from the code (#29407)
Summary:
Refs: [0.62 release](https://reactnative.dev/blog/#moving-apple-tv-to-react-native-tvos), https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/28706, https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/28743, https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/29018

This PR removes most of the tvOS remnants in the code. Most of the changes are related to the tvOS platform removal from `.podspec` files, tvOS specific conditionals removal (Obj-C + JS) or tvOS CI/testing pipeline related code.

In addition to the changes listed above I have removed the deprecated `Platform.isTVOS` method. I'm not sure how `Platform.isTV` method is correlated with Android TV devices support which is technically not deprecated in the core so I left this method untouched for now.

## Changelog

* **[Internal] [Removed]** - remove `TARGET_TV_OS` flag and all the usages
* **[iOS] [Removed]** - remove deprecated `Platform.isTVOS` method
* **[iOS] [Removed]** - remove deprecated and TV related props from View:
  * `isTVSelectable`, `hasTVPreferredFocus` and `tvParallaxProperties`
* **[iOS] [Removed]** - remove `BackHandler` utility implementation

Pull Request resolved: https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/29407

Test Plan: Local tests (and iOS CI run) do not yield any errors, but I'm not sure how the CI pipeline would react to those changes. That is the reason why this PR is being posted as Draft. Some tweaks and code adjustment could be required.

Eloy Durán 941bc0ec19 Upstream RN macOS Hermes integration bits (#29748)
Summary:
Microsoft’s RN for macOS fork supports the Hermes engine nowadays https://github.com/microsoft/react-native-macos/pull/473. As a longer term work item, we’ve started moving bits that are not invasive for iOS but _are_ a maintenance burden on us—mostly when merging—upstream. Seeing as this one is a recent addition, it seemed like a good candidate to start with.

As to the actual changes, these include:

* Sharing Android’s Hermes executor with the objc side of the codebase.
* Adding a CocoaPods subspec to build the Hermes inspector source and its dependencies (`Folly/Futures`, `libevent`).
* Adding the bits to the Xcode build phase script that creates the JS bundle for release builds to compile Hermes bytecode and source-maps…
* …coincidentally it turns out that the Xcode build phase script did _not_ by default output source-maps for iOS, which is now fixed too.

All of the Hermes bits are automatically enabled, on macOS, when providing the `hermes-engine-darwin` [npm package](https://www.npmjs.com/package/hermes-engine-darwin) and enabling the Hermes pods.

empyrical fb2a7765ac Update podspecs for latest Fabric changes (#28584)
Summary:
This pull request updates the Podspecs to reflect recent changes to Fabric, so they build with Fabric enabled again.

In `React-Fabric.podspec`, subspecs for the views `legacyviewmanagerinterop`, `safeareaview`, `textinput`, and `unimplementedview` are added. A minor tweak to the subspec for `rncore` was added blacklisting two codegen-generated files that have issues building, but are not actually needed yet and are empty.

In `React-graphics.podspec`, the header paths for Boost were added.

This is partially a retread of https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/26805, which had to be backed out due to issues with the changes to the Yoga podspec.

Ramanpreet Nara fd5de50aca Fix Cocoapods builds
Summary:
## Problem
For some reason, D20831545 broke the `use_frameworks!` build of RNTester.

## Building RNTester
```
pushd ~/fbsource/xplat/js/react-native-github/RNTester && USE_FRAMEWORKS=1 pod install && open RNTesterPods.xcworkspace && popd;
```

## Error
I built RNTester locally, and the error was this:

```
Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64:
  "facebook::jsi::HostObject::set(facebook::jsi::Runtime&, facebook::jsi::PropNameID const&, facebook::jsi::Value const&)", referenced from:
```

## Fix
It looked like libraries that depend on "ReactCommon/turbomodule/core" weren't linking to JSI correctly. So, I modified all such Podspecs to also depend on "React-jsi":

```
arc rfr '  s.dependency "ReactCommon/turbomodule/core", version' '  s.dependency "ReactCommon/turbomodule/core", version\n  s.dependency "React-jsi", version'
```

This seemed to do the trick. In buck, we'd fix this problem using exported_dependencies. I skimmed through cocoapods, and couldn't find such a configuration option there. So, I guess this will have to do?

Ramanpreet Nara 3f50f57b3d Back out "Fixes Fabric related podspec"
Summary:
Original commit changeset: 4b18a931a2e4

The original PR wherein these changes were introduced was problematic. When you expose headers that use C++ from the Yoga podspec, they get automatically imported in the Yoga umbrella file. This causes compilation errors, most likely because it's possible for non-c++ files to import these headers (i.e: RCTConvert.m).

I didn't dig into this too much, but since Fabric still doesn't fully compile in OSS, I think it's reasonable to revert this PR for now. cc Kevin Gozali.
