Joel Arvidsson 36c0a7dec1 Support user-defined PlatformColors on iOS (#31258)
Summary:
Original PR: https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/31258

## Imported PR from Github:

This is a continuation of https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/29683. I've talked to danilobuerger who does not intend on continue work on it and is OK with me picking up where he left. This PR is identical besides adding a test case in the RN Tester app as requested in the original PR.

In summary it gives iOS feature parity with Android in the sense that one can use user-defined native colors, something even the docs claim is possible. It's useful as it enables accessibility features such as high contrast colors and makes implementing dark mode simple. For an example on how it can be used, see https://github.com/klarna-incubator/platform-colors

Birkir Gudjonsson 4b9d9dda27 Accessible colors for DynamicColorIOS (#31651)
Summary:
Allow you to harvest the `UIAccessibilityContrastHigh` trait from iOS to show accessible colors when high contrast mode is enabled.

```jsx
// usage
PlatformColorIOS({
  light: '#eeeeee',
  dark: '#333333',
  highContrastLight: '#ffffff',
  highContrastDark: '#000000',
});
// {
//   "dynamic": {
//     "light": "#eeeeee",
//     "dark": "#333333",
//     "highContrastLight": "#ffffff",
//     "highContrastDark": "#000000",
//   }
// }
```

This is how apple's own dynamic system colors work under the hood (https://developer.apple.com/design/human-interface-guidelines/ios/visual-design/color/#dynamic-system-colors)

The react native docs mention that more keys may become available in the future, which this PR is adding:

> In the future, more keys might become available for different user preferences, like high contrast.

simek 2160377574 remove most of tvOS remnants from the code (#29407)
Summary:
Refs: [0.62 release](https://reactnative.dev/blog/#moving-apple-tv-to-react-native-tvos), https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/28706, https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/28743, https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/29018

This PR removes most of the tvOS remnants in the code. Most of the changes are related to the tvOS platform removal from `.podspec` files, tvOS specific conditionals removal (Obj-C + JS) or tvOS CI/testing pipeline related code.

In addition to the changes listed above I have removed the deprecated `Platform.isTVOS` method. I'm not sure how `Platform.isTV` method is correlated with Android TV devices support which is technically not deprecated in the core so I left this method untouched for now.

## Changelog

<!-- Help reviewers and the release process by writing your own changelog entry. For an example, see:
https://github.com/facebook/react-native/wiki/Changelog
-->

* **[Internal] [Removed]** - remove most of tvOS remnants from the code:
  * `TVEventHandler`, `TVTouchable`, `RCTTVView`, `RCTTVRemoteHandler` and `RCTTVNavigationEventEmitter`
* **[Internal] [Removed]** - remove `TARGET_TV_OS` flag and all the usages
* **[iOS] [Removed]** - remove deprecated `Platform.isTVOS` method
* **[iOS] [Removed]** - remove deprecated and TV related props from View:
  * `isTVSelectable`, `hasTVPreferredFocus` and `tvParallaxProperties`
* **[iOS] [Removed]** - remove `BackHandler` utility implementation

Pull Request resolved: https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/29407

Test Plan: Local tests (and iOS CI run) do not yield any errors, but I'm not sure how the CI pipeline would react to those changes. That is the reason why this PR is being posted as Draft. Some tweaks and code adjustment could be required.

Tom Underhill 25793eab56 Allow iOS PlatformColor strings to be ObjC or Swift UIColor selectors (#28703)
Summary:
Per discussion in https://github.com/react-native-community/releases/issues/186 the iOS `PlatformColor()` function is documented to use the semantic color names provided by the system. The referenced HIG documentation itself links to the `UIColor` documentation for semantic colors names. However, these names differ depending on if you are viewing the new Swift API docs or the Objective C docs. The current Objective C implementation in react-native assumes Objective C UIColor selector names that are suffixed 'Color'. But in Swift, Apple provides a Swift Extension on UIColor that makes aliases without the the 'Color' suffix and then makes the original selectors invalid presumably via `NS_UNAVAILABLE_SWIFT`.

Since both selector names are valid depending on if you are using Objective C or Swift, let's make both forms be legal for `PlatformColor()`. In `RCTConvert.m` there is a dictionary of legal selector names. The code already supports the ability to have names be aliases of other selectors via a RCTSelector metadata key. The change adds code to the initialization of the map: it iterates over the keys in the map, which are all ObjC style UIColor selectors, and creates aliases by duplicating the entries, creating key names by stripping off the ObjC "Color" suffix, adds the RCTSelector key referring to the original and then appends these new Swift aliases to the map.

Pull Request resolved: https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/28703

Test Plan:
The PlatformColorExample.js is updated to use the new, shorter Swift selector names. There are still other examples in the same file and in unit tests that exercise the ObjC selector names.

Tom Underhill f4de45800f PlatformColor implementations for iOS and Android (#27908)
Summary:
This Pull Request implements the PlatformColor proposal discussed at https://github.com/react-native-community/discussions-and-proposals/issues/126. The changes include implementations for iOS and Android as well as a PlatformColorExample page in RNTester.

Every native platform has the concept of system defined colors. Instead of specifying a concrete color value the app developer can choose a system color that varies in appearance depending on a system theme settings such Light or Dark mode, accessibility settings such as a High Contrast mode, and even its context within the app such as the traits of a containing view or window.

The proposal is to add true platform color support to react-native by extending the Flow type `ColorValue` with platform specific color type information for each platform and to provide a convenience function, `PlatformColor()`, for instantiating platform specific ColorValue objects.

`PlatformColor(name [, name ...])` where `name` is a system color name on a given platform. If `name` does not resolve to a color for any reason, the next `name` in the argument list will be resolved and so on. If none of the names resolve, a RedBox error occurs. This allows a latest platform color to be used, but if running on an older platform it will fallback to a previous version.
 The function returns a `ColorValue`.

On iOS the values of `name` is one of the iOS [UI Element](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/uikit/uicolor/ui_element_colors) or [Standard Color](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/uikit/uicolor/standard_colors) names such as `labelColor` or `systemFillColor`.

On Android the `name` values are the same [app resource](https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/providing-resources) path strings that can be expressed in XML:
XML Resource:
`@ [<package_name>:]<resource_type>/<resource_name>`
Style reference from current theme:
`?[<package_name>:][<resource_type>/]<resource_name>`
For example:
- `?android:colorError`
- `?android:attr/colorError`
- `?attr/colorPrimary`
- `?colorPrimaryDark`
- `android:color/holo_purple`
- `color/catalyst_redbox_background`

On iOS another type of system dynamic color can be created using the `IOSDynamicColor({dark: <color>, light:<color>})` method. The arguments are a tuple containing custom colors for light and dark themes. Such dynamic colors are useful for branding colors or other app specific colors that still respond automatically to system setting changes.

Example: `<View style={{ backgroundColor: IOSDynamicColor({light: 'black', dark: 'white'}) }}/>`

Other platforms could create platform specific functions similar to `IOSDynamicColor` per the needs of those platforms. For example, macOS has a similar dynamic color type that could be implemented via a `MacDynamicColor`. On Windows custom brushes that tint or otherwise modify a system brush could be created using a platform specific method.

This diff caused https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/25339.
It was converting non string values to strings whenever the conversion was available.

The original problem that this diff was trying to solve is described here -> https://twitter.com/estevao_lucas/status/1117572702083190785?s=215

# Solution introduced by this diff
This diff introduced a conversion. So for any value that was meant to be string but wasn't we would attempt to convert it. Which is not always wanted.

# Solution for problem in the twitter
I think we should improve the error message if incorrect type is being passed as a prop. However this isn't a problem if views are Flow typed.

While building a React Native application, I've come across the use case of wanting to set a specific locale for DatePickers irrespective of the users OS region setting. Since this is a feature available to native DatePicker components, I think it would be helpful to expose this in React Native as well.

Testing can be done by passing a `locale` prop to a DatePickerIOS. Example:

```
<DatePickerIOS
  date={this.state.date}
  mode="date"
  locale="fr_FR"
  onDateChange={date => this.setState({ date: date })}
/>
```

Emil Sjolander 4d69f4b2d1 Add display:none support to react native
Summary:
This diff adds display:none support to React Native. This enables hiding components which still calling their render method and keeping them within the state of your application. rh389 9d6d8a24eb RCTConvert: Deprecated NSStringArray typedef
Summary:
Eliminates a build warning related to the use of the deprecated `NSStringArray` typedef.

This fix was more complex than I'd anticipated because `NSStringArray` was also being used as part of a macro-generated selector name, and in two different ways for debug/release. I've added a macro which allows the selector name to be specified explicitly, thus generally allowing for converters which return arrays of templated types.

There's an argument for ditching `RCT_JSON_ARRAY_CONVERTER` in favour of `RCT_JSON_ARRAY_CONVERTER_NAMED` as they're both private, but `RCT_ARRAY_CONVERTER` is in the public API so we'd at least need to retain that. There are also arguments for ditching the use of the macro for the nested array case(s) - since afaik this is the only one at the moment. Feedback appreciated :)

Tested with the `UIExplorer` unit tests and by diffing the preprocessor output of `RCTConvert.m` in both release and debug configs, verifying that they're identical apart from that `NSStringArray` is replaced by

Peter Salanki 52d8851fc8 Cache policy control for image source
Summary:
In the context of an app an image exists in three resolutions on the server: `thumb` (30px) `feed` (300px) `full` (900px). When looking at an individual item a user can come either from the feed, via a permalink or from other parts of the app. This allows a situation where the `feed` image might or might not already be loaded somewhere in the app. In the detail view I want to render `thumb` with a blur (to quickly display something), then the `feed` image if it exists to have something decent to display until `full` loads. However it is quite a waste to load the `feed` image if it isn't already in cache, and will slow down the time until `full` is loaded. It is possible to track the navigation from feed->detail and that the `feed` image has actually completed loading by the feed component however as component hierarchies grow this turns into quite a lot of prop passing and bad separation of concerns.

Pieter De Baets e1577df1fd Move all header imports to "<React/..>"
Summary:
To make React Native play nicely with our internal build infrastructure we need to properly namespace all of our header includes.

Where previously you could do `#import "RCTBridge.h"`, you must now write this as `#import <React/RCTBridge.h>`. If your xcode project still has a custom header include path, both variants will likely continue to work, but for new projects, we're defaulting the header include path to `$(BUILT_PRODUCTS_DIR)/usr/local/include`, where the React and CSSLayout targets will copy a subset of headers too. To make Xcode copy headers phase work properly, you may need to add React as an explicit dependency to your app's scheme and disable "parallelize build".

Emil Sjolander 0a9b6bedb3 BREAKING - Fix unconstraint sizing in main axis
Summary:
This fixes measuring of items in the main axis of a container. Previously items were in a lot of cases measured with UNSPECIFIED instead of AT_MOST. This was to support scrolling containers. The correct way to handle scrolling containers is to instead provide them with their own overflow value to activate this behavior. This is also similar to how the web works.

This is a breaking change. Most of your layouts will continue to function as before however some of them might not. Typically this is due to having a `flex: 1` style where it is currently a no-op due to being measured with an undefined size but after this change it may collapse your component to take zero size due to the implicit `flexBasis: 0` now being correctly treated. Removing the bad `flex: 1` style or changing it to `flexGrow: 1` should solve most if not all layout issues your see after this diff.

Emil Sjolander a6e1e33a50 Reverted commit D3855801
Summary: Introduce `overflow:scroll` so that scrolling can be implemented without the current overflow:visible hackiness. Currently we use AT_MOST to measure in the cross axis but not in the main axis. This was done to enable scrolling containers where children are not constraint in the main axis by their parent. This caused problems for non-scrolling containers though as it meant that their children cannot be measured correctly in the main axis. Introducing `overflow:scroll` fixes this.
