Andrei ShikovandFacebook GitHub Bot adb2167640 Serialize and assert type information in mapbuffer
Summary:
Serializes type information along with key/value in MapBuffer, asserting the data type on Java side during read. At the moment, accessing value with incorrect will result in a crash.

Other changes:
Adds a `getType` method to verify types before accessing them.
Removes `null` as a type, as just not inserting value and checking for its existence with `hasKey` is more optimal.

Summary:
In the case of T110060790, there is a JavaScript crash that causes RN teardown to race with a ScrollView event being emitted, which ends up being reported as the "real" cause of the crash.

This is not correct, and it's better to just ignore this case. If there's no EventDispatcher, it means something has gone wrong (usually teardown) before, RN is in an inconsistent state, and we should
not crash here or report here.

Andrei ShikovandFacebook GitHub Bot a054379a54 Remove short conversions in MapBuffer
Summary:
MapBuffer uses unsigned short in C++, but Java doesn't really have a type that represents that. That means that MapBuffer would be limited to max 32768 values instead of 65536, which doesn't make much sense as a limitation.
Considering weird (and usually not performant) handling of short values in Java in general, this change replaces them with ints, converting keys from short when needed with `key & 0xFFFF`.

Ramanpreet NaraandFacebook GitHub Bot 4b9e4fa1ef Codemod: Make Android native ViewConfigs inherit parents' bubbling/direct events
Summary:
# Problem
1. Static ViewConfigs on **both platforms** contain their parent component's inherited bubbling/direct events (and props).
2. On Android, native ViewConfigs for child components **do not** inherit bubbling/direct events from their parent. (They do inherit the props, however).

# Cause

How child components inherit props from their parent component on Android:
1. A ViewManager's native props are calculated by [calling ViewManager.getNativeProps()](https://www.internalfb.com/code/fbsource/[5769b6d6ca123b2bed31dc2bc6bc8e4701581891]/xplat/js/react-native-github/ReactAndroid/src/main/java/com/facebook/react/uimanager/UIManagerModuleConstantsHelper.java?lines=139)
2. Which [calls into ViewManagerPropertyUpdater.getNativeProps()](https://www.internalfb.com/code/fbsource/[11f0031c5e83d4d8903112d7d720b58981d3613f]/xplat/js/react-native-github/ReactAndroid/src/main/java/com/facebook/react/uimanager/ViewManager.java?lines=278-280)
3. Which [calls into a code-generated $$PropsSetter object](https://www.internalfb.com/code/fbsource/[11f0031c5e83d4d8903112d7d720b58981d3613f]/xplat/js/react-native-github/ReactAndroid/src/main/java/com/facebook/react/uimanager/ViewManagerPropertyUpdater.java?lines=73-74%2C112)
4. The ReactProp annotation processor [code-generates a $$PropsSetter object](https://www.internalfb.com/code/fbsource/[cbc8ca6036219069ad52fb6aec66488b7a06a879]/xplat/js/react-native-github/ReactAndroid/src/main/java/com/facebook/react/processing/ReactPropertyProcessor.java?lines=265) by [visiting the ViewManager’s *entire class hierarchy* in search of ReactProp annotations](https://www.internalfb.com/code/fbsource/[cbc8ca6036219069ad52fb6aec66488b7a06a879]/xplat/js/react-native-github/ReactAndroid/src/main/java/com/facebook/react/processing/ReactPropertyProcessor.java?lines=203-230).

Why child components don't inherit direct/bubbling events from their parents:
1. When we get the bubbling/direct events for a component on Android, we just call into the child ViewManager, which didn't forward its parent's props (until this diff):

https://www.internalfb.com/code/fbsource/[5769b6d6ca123b2bed31dc2bc6bc8e4701581891]/xplat/js/react-native-github/ReactAndroid/src/main/java/com/facebook/react/uimanager/UIManagerModuleConstantsHelper.java?lines=113%2C122

# Fix

Codemod all components to manually forward the bubbling/direct events from their parents.

Why Not:
- Leads to a lot of boilerplate code.
- Feels like a bandaid solution.
- Doesn’t scale to open source. There’s more process when authoring new components.
- Are thre more idiomatic alternative solutions? (See alternatives considered).

Why:
- It’s a bandaid solution, yes. And it doesn’t scale well to other components, true. But, we’re only bloating deprecated APIs. Long term, we’re going to kill off getExportedCustomBubblingEventTypeConstants() and getExportedCustomDirectEventTypeConstants().
- Our goal is to just unblock Static ViewConfigs. This is the simplest/safest/least intrusive way to accomplish our goal.

# FAQ
**If child components don't contain their parents bubbling/direct events, how can they can respond to their parent's bubbling/direct events?**
- Bubbling/direct events are stored in a [global map](https://www.internalfb.com/code/fbsource/[2de1e1d59f6e0316868a6c4d9bca5fe673210106]/xplat/js/react-native-github/Libraries/Renderer/shims/ReactNativeViewConfigRegistry.js?lines=20-34). Once *one* component registers a bubbling/direct event, all components [can respond to that event](https://www.internalfb.com/code/fbsource/[2de1e1d59f6e0316868a6c4d9bca5fe673210106]/xplat/js/react-native-github/Libraries/Renderer/implementations/ReactFabric-dev.js?lines=2439-2440).

**How does this component prop/event inheriting work on iOS?**
1. On iOS, ViewConfigs have a baseViewConfig property.
2. All components at least have baseViewConfig = RCTViewManager.
3. To create the native ViewConfig for the component, JavaScript runs this loop:

https://www.internalfb.com/code/fbsource/[058bc6c4976d4cebb442dd2675a2a0570a214403]/xplat/js/react-native-github/Libraries/ReactNative/getNativeComponentAttributes.js?lines=42-61

# Alternative Solutions
***Solution 1:** Make Android components leverage baseViewConfig, like iOS.*

Why Not:
- baseViewConfig leads to unnecessary round trips from JS → Native (see [this TODO](https://www.internalfb.com/code/fbsource/[a88c9751494f1ee863a76238b532fca2b134032d]/xplat/js/react-native-github/Libraries/ReactNative/getNativeComponentAttributes.js?lines=34-35) that tells us we should avoid this on iOS).

***Solution 2:** In [UIManagerModuleConstantsHelper](https://www.internalfb.com/code/fbsource/[6717cba1e0db71777cf11dcf7b861b171bfd0c84]/xplat/js/react-native-github/ReactAndroid/src/main/java/com/facebook/react/uimanager/UIManagerModuleConstantsHelper.java?lines=105-145), which generates the native ViewConfig for Android components, use Java reflection APIs to visit the class hierarchy of all ViewManagers when collecting bubbling/direct events.*

Complications:
- **Challenging to Implement**: Have to rely on advanced Java reflection APIs. You can’t just do getSuperclass().getDeclaredMethod(...).invoke(object) to invoke an overridden method.
- **Challenging to Ship**: Would lead to a penalties when creating native view configs: either performance, or memory. This negatively impacts VR and legacy React Native android.

***Solution 3:** Create a deprecated ReactProp-like annotation (e.g: ReactEvent) but for declaring bubbling/direct events in Java ViewManagers for zero runtime cost event declaration.*

Details:
- Legacy React Native infra will be code-modded to newer ReactEvent annotation infra.
- The ReactEvent annotation processor will navigate the ViewManager’s class hierarchy at build-time to generate a class that returns the ViewManager’s bubbling/direct events.
- UIManagerModuleConstantsHelper will call into this class to get the bubbling/direct events.
- **Aside:** The component codegen can also generate these annotations. This way, all you need to do is hook up your ViewManagers to codegen to guarantee that your native component exports the right bubbling/direct events to JavaScript.

Why Not:
- This is a lot of throwaway work for just making the SVC === NVC check pass, which we're only doing to unblock the SVC migration.

Why is this throwaway work?
- Java ViewManagers don’t do anything special in native with the Bubbling/Direct events. They declare the Bubbling/Direct events for JavaScript consumption. If JavaScript is the source of truth, then there’s no value in sending these Bubbling/Direct events to Java ViewManagers.

Xin ChenandFacebook GitHub Bot bc9168d4ca Add overflowInset to RN Android ViewGroup as separate mount instruction
Summary:
This diff adds `overflowInset` values in RN Android. These values are used to give an enlarged boundary of a view group that also contains all its children layout. Here is [the post](https://fb.workplace.com/groups/yogalayout/permalink/2264980363573947/) that discuss more on why this is useful. I steal the pic in that post here as TLDR:

{F687030994}

In the above case, we will get overflowInset for ViewGroup A as something like `top: 0, right: -20, bottom: -20, left: 0`.

This has been added in the [Fabric core](https://fburl.com/code/f8c5tg7b) and [in IOS](https://fburl.com/code/vkh0hpt6). In Android, since we used to ignore all event coordinates outside of a ViewGroup boundary, this is not an issue. However, that caused unregistered touch area problem and got fixed in D30104853 (https://github.com/facebook/react-native/commit/e35a963bfb93bbbdd92f4dd74d14e2ad6df5e14a), which dropped the boundary check and made the hit test algorithm in [TouchTargetHelper.java](https://fburl.com/code/dj8jiz22) worse as we now need to explore all the child node under ReactRootNode.

This perf issue is getting obvious when a view loads too many items, which matches our experience with "Hover getting slow after scrolling", "Hover getting slow after going back from PDP view", and "The saved list view (in Explore) is very fast (because it has very few components)"

To fix this issue, I added the support to `overflowInset` to RN Android by
1. Sending the `overflowInset` values from Binding.cpp in RN Android as a separate mount instruction
2. Update `IntBufferBatchMountItem.java` to read the int buffer sent over JNI, and pass the `overflowInset` values to `SurfaceMountingManager.java`
3. Creating new interface `ReactOverflowViewWithInset.java` and extending the existing `ReactOverflowView.java` usages
4. Adding implementation of getter and setter for `overflowInset` in various views
5. Update `TouchTargetHelper.java` to read the values and check boundaries before exploring ViewGroup's children

Note that in #3 I didn't change `ReactOverflowView.java` interface directly. I am concerned about backward compatibility issues in case this interface is being used in OSS. I suggest we deprecate it as we are not using it anymore in our code.

Xin ChenandFacebook GitHub Bot fe6277a30d Support override predict final scroll position with custom fling animator
Summary:
This diff add custom prediction for fling distance support. This is needed for customize fling animator to calculate predicted fling distance, instead of using the overscroller that may not be used by the animator.

More context on this -- when fling happens, our code will first predict the final fling position `p`, apply the snapping logic to decide the expected snapping position `pSnapping` given `p`, scroll velocity and children layout, then trigger the overscroller (existing) or custom fling animator to finish the fling.

Currently, the prediction logic is done with overscroller, and custom fling animator has no control over how the predicted fling distance should be. Changes in this diff allow the animator to override `getExtrapolatedDistance` method and provide that information.

Xin ChenandFacebook GitHub Bot f70018b375 Fix quick small scroll gesture race issues
Summary:
This diff fixes two edge case (similar to a race condition) that caused unexpected behaviors.

**Problem one**
{F680816408}

The previous fling animation is not canceled when user starts to scroll or drag. This is causing both the animation and scroll are setting the scroll position. Depends on the animation path and scroll speed, there may be cases where the [velocity calculation](https://fburl.com/code/010lsu72) ends up getting reversed values. See P467905091 as an example where you can see `mXFlingVelocity` goes back and forth from positive to negative.

It's hard to see if the wrong values are in the middle, but if that happens in the end of user gesture, the velocity for the next fling would be wrong. It shows a "bounce back" effect, and can be triggered when user makes small quick joystick scrolls in one direction.

**Problem two**

{F680821494}

There is a gap between animator's `onAnimationEnd` lifecycle method [finished](https://fburl.com/code/6baq04ne) and the `Animator#isRunning` API to return false. This is causing issues for `getPostAnimationScrollX` where we [decide to return](https://fburl.com/code/hzzugvch) the animated final value or the scroll value. User may see the `-1` value got used for the next fling start value, and the whole scroll view goes back to the beginning of scroll view and starts to fling.

This happens when the previous fling animation finishes and the animated final value is set to -1, but at the same time the next fling starts before `isRunning` returns false for the previous animation.

**Solution**
The problems are fixed by
- Do not reset animated final value to -1 in `onAnimationEnd` method
- Add `mIsFinished` states and use it to track animation finish signal, instead of using `isRunning` API
- Update logic where we decide to return the correct value for the next animation starts point. We will return previous animated final value when the animation got canceled, and user is going towards that value from the current scroll value.

Xin ChenandFacebook GitHub Bot 3352b57a6f Make fling animator customizable
Summary:
This diff makes the fling animator cuztomizable, so that the subclasses can have their own animation for fling behavior.

Before the diff, we rely on the `OverScroller` to `fling`, which has some issues with Spline interpolation being messed up due to the clamped fling distance (See more details in T105464095). This may not be a big issue for mobile when user touches screen, but in VR environment this shows up very clearly with joystick events. To fix that properly without affecting mobile behavior, I added a new interface `HasFlingAnimator` from the helper, and implemented with default fling animator in the OSS ScrollView.

We should consider adopt a suitable animator for mobile platform, as the non-smooth fling effect is also happening in mobile.

- Add interface `HasFlingAnimator` to `ReactScrollView` and `ReactHorizontalScrollView`
- Add default fling animator
- Depend on if the default animator is used, customize the flingAndSnap behavior

Summary:
This diff refactors the scroll animation from `ReactScrollView` and `ReactHorizontalScrollView` into the `ReactScrollViewHelper` to reduce repeated code. The `Animator` is now shared between all the scroll views in the app, which I believe is the right behavior.

It also helps to make the animator changes in future diffs apply to both horizontal and vertical scroll view.

- Move `reactSmoothScrollTo` to `smoothScrollTo` in the helper class
  - This means one Animator for all ScrollViews
- Move `updateStateOnScroll` to the helper class
- Add interface for accessing instance scroll state properties in ScrollView
  - This means each ScrollView keeps their own scrolling state
- Use `Point` class for pairs of x and y values

Stefanos MarkidisandFacebook GitHub Bot 456cf3db14 Fix ReactSwitch for non RippleDrawable backgrounds (#32468)
Summary:
ReactSwitch component is crashing on Android when it is initialised with both a backgroundColor and thumbColor, `style={{ backgroundColor: "anyColor" }} thumbColor="anyColor"`, due to IllegalCastException.

When setting a background color, BaseViewManagerDelegate is calling `setBackgroundColor` which replaces the background drawable with a ColorDrawale, hence [this line](https://github.com/facebook/react-native/blob/72ea0e111fccd99456abf3f974439432145585e3/ReactAndroid/src/main/java/com/facebook/react/views/switchview/ReactSwitch.java#L68) fails.

Instead, given the ripple effect needs to be preserved, one should initialise a RippleDrawable using the current background drawable and set it as the background of the switch.

Given the RippleDrawable should be preserved, overriding the `setBackgroundColor` seemed the sensible thing to do.

## Changelog

[Android] [Fixed] - Fix crash when a Switch is initialised with both backgroundColor and thumbColor.

Pull Request resolved: https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/32468

Test Plan:
### Setup:
Initialise an empty React Native project. Add a switch component:
`<Switch
        style={{backgroundColor: 'red'}}
        thumbColor={'https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/356'}
      />`
Run the project `yarn android`

### Current state (RN 65+):
Red screen will show highlighting an IllegalCastException.

### With fix:
- The component is expected to have a red background.
- When pressed a ripple effect shows inside the backgrounds bounding box.
- Business as usual otherwise.

`backgroundColor` with `thumbColor`:

David VaccaandFacebook GitHub Bot e494e4beb6 Fix onPress event for nested Text in RN Android
Summary:
This bug is caused by RNAndroid dispatching an incorrect sequence of events to JS when the user taps on a Text.

Taking into consideration the example P462662009, when the user taps of the "Inner" text, RN Android is dispatching three events:
topTouchStart, topTouchStart and topTouchEnd.

The information stored on the first two JS events is correct, but the problem is that it is duplicated. This sequence of events makes Pressability to dispatch the event to the incorrect target.

This was originally introduced in D3035589 (https://github.com/facebook/react-native/commit/39fdce259dd46de8fd715efbfd12ede4bc24c8c2) (2016)

In this diff I'm changing the way RN Android bubbles events when the user taps on a ReactTextView. From now on, events won't be bubbled anymore, and they will be handled by the ReactRootView.onInterceptTouchEvent: https://fburl.com/code/rbt8$

Additionally, I'm creating a FeatureFlag in case this change has a unknown side effect that's only detected in production.
I will create a MC for FB4A in the next diffs of the stack

These two props were implemented in C++ and iOS but never supported in JS.

Pre-Fabric (and CSS) on the other hand use a single prop `textDecorationStyle: 'solid' | 'double' | 'dotted' | 'dashed'`.

The issue was demonstrated in the following [snack](https://snack.expo.io/fabrizio.bertoglio/selectable-bug-in-flatlist) (more info in issue https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/26264).

The solution is:

1) Calling `invalidate()` from [setSelectableText][1] after changing the `selectable` prop and `mSelectableText` value. [`invalidate()`](https://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/View#invalidate()) triggers the `onDraw` callback.

Summary:
This fixes https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/20666 and https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/21918.

This is pretty much the same as 51b3529f6c but implemented for Android.
Now <Text> exposes the actual base-line offset value that allows Yoga to position it properly when `alignItems: baseline` is requested.

Summary:
hyphenationStrategy must be one of one of Layout#HYPHENATION_FREQUENCY_NONE, Layout#HYPHENATION_FREQUENCY_NORMAL, Layout#HYPHENATION_FREQUENCY_FULL: (https://developer.android.com/reference/android/widget/TextView#setHyphenationFrequency(int))

Thus "high" and "balanced" are not only redundant, but actually don't do what the value indicates - Layout#BREAK_STRATEGY_BALANCED (constant value: 2) and Layout#BREAK_STRATEGY_HIGH_QUALITY (constant value: 1) are only meant to be used for android:breakStrategy

[Android][Changed] - Remove `"high"` and `"balanced"` as values for `android_hyphenationFrequency` on `Text`

Summary:
This issue fixes https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/19507 fixes https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/30475 onKeyPress event not fired for numeric keyboard
The TextInput onKeyPress event is not fired when pressing numeric keys on Android.

The method sendKeyEvent will dispatchKeyEvent only for:
- ENTER_KEY_VALUE
- KEYCODE_DEL (delete key)

The solution proposed is trigger dispatchKeyEvent for KeyEvents with event.getUnicodeChar() value included between 47 and 58 (numeric keys 0-9)

Valentin SherginandFacebook GitHub Bot 59021521e7 Fixed dynamic behavior of <Text adjustsFontSizeToFit={true}> on Android (#31538)
Summary:
This PR fixes https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/30717, a bug in `<Text adjustsFontSizeToFit={true}>` implementation that prevents it from adjusting text size dynamically on Android.

The way `adjustsFontSizeToFit` was implemented in https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/26389 (and the design of ReactTextShadowNode) implies that Yoga will call `onMeasure` on every size change of a `<Text>` component, which is actually not the case (Yoga can cache the results of the measures, call the function multiple times or do not call at all inferring the size from the size constraints). The implementation of `adjustsFontSizeToFit` computes the adjusted string inside the measure function and then eventually passes that to the view layer where it's being rendered.

The proper fix of this issue requires the full redesign of the measure and rendering pipelines and separating them, and that... would be too invasive. And, I believe, this issue is already fixed in Fabric where this part is already designed this way.

Instead, this diff implements a small workaround: if `adjustsFontSizeToFit` is enabled, we manually dirty the Yoga node and mark the shadow node updated to force remeasuring.
